Lavender, a traditional feature in the Van Cleef & Arpels brooch collection, was chosen for its symbolic power. “Lavender is known for its purifying properties. And, of course, its beauty – not only for the sense of smell, but also for the eyes.

The butterfly, also a recognizable symbol of the house, adds an element of transformation. The butterfly begins in a cocoon and then transforms. It’s cyclical,” says Rainer Bernard, Head of Watchmaking Research and Development. The Brassée de Lavande watch contains two independent movements: one for animation and one for timekeeping. Lavender petals unfurl as if touched by a gentle breeze, and a butterfly rises in graceful flight. While the piece exudes the grace of nature, its mechanics are a true marvel. This collaborative effort, requiring years of research and development, skillfully blends movement and music to tell a new story.
