Royal Jewelry
Legendary Indian jeweler Ambaji Shinde, Nanubhai Jewelers

The Maharani of Gwalior’s necklace, made of large natural diamonds, is crafted in the shape of baguettes, resembling two scrolls that cascade gracefully downwards.
Circa 1954
In 1947, with the dissolution of India as a British colony, the era of the Maharajas came to an end. In 1953, Nanubhai Jewelers acquired a collection of royal antique Indian artefacts and jewelry featuring exceptionally large diamonds.
The tablet-shaped diamonds were ideal for reworking into a collection of large baguette-cut diamonds. “Several luxurious necklaces in the form of curly ribbons were created from this collection.

The Maharaja of Gwalior purchased two such necklaces for his wife. In 2019, one of the jewels sold at Christie’s for £539,250.
Harry Winston acquired another.
Since 1962, Ambaji Shinde worked for the House of Harry Winston, creating jewelry for Indian rulers and international celebrities throughout his career. He made a significant contribution to the development of jewelry design at the time.
